The term "quark" refers to a fundamental particle that is a building block of hadrons, which are subatomic particles composed of quarks, gluons, and anti-quarks. Hadrons are the heaviest particles and are classified into two categories: baryons, which are made up of 3 quarks, and mesons, which are made up of a quark and an antiquark.2 Quarks have fractional electric charges, and their combinations result in hadrons with integer charges.
